who we are…

“At Magnolia Play and Wellness, our mission is to help children of all ages heal, grow, and thrive through the power of play. We believe that play is a child’s natural language and that every child possesses the inner strength and wisdom to move toward wellness. Through compassionate, child-centered play therapy, we provide a safe, nurturing environment where children can express themselves freely, process their experiences, and build resilience. Our goal is to partner with families to support emotional growth, strengthen connections, and empower every child to reach their fullest potential.”

  • Dr. Jennifer Main, LPC-S, RPT-S, BC-TMH, CAAPT

    FOUNDER

Dr. Jennifer Main is a Licensed Professional Counselor Supervisor, Registered Play Therapist Supervisor, and Certified Animal Assisted Play Therapist Supervisor with a deep commitment to supporting children and families through child-centered play therapy (CCPT). She works primarily with children ages 2.5 to 10, guided by the belief that children heal and grow best when they are met with safety, acceptance, and the freedom to express themselves in ways that feel natural.

Dr. Main holds a doctorate in Counselor Education and Supervision from the University of Mississippi and a master’s degree in Clinical Psychology from Georgia Southern University. She has worked across a variety of settings, including private practice, hospitals, schools, community mental health, and child advocacy environments.

When clinically appropriate and aligned with a child’s comfort and goals, Dr. Main may integrate animal-assisted play therapy into sessions. With over 18 years of experience in Animal Assisted Play Therapy®, she incorporates therapy dogs intentionally and ethically—as relational supports that can enhance connection and emotional regulation for some children. At times, play therapy may occur without a therapy dog present, depending on the child’s needs and clinical goals.

She has been deeply involved in advancing the field of play therapy through leadership, teaching, and scholarship, presenting locally, nationally, and internationally. Dr. Main served on the Mississippi Association for Play Therapy board for seven years, chairing its annual conference for four, and has held leadership roles within the Mississippi Counseling Association, as an Emerging Leader in 2022. Most recently, in 2025, she became co-chair of the International Institute for Animal Assisted Play Therapy® annual conference and serves on both the AAPT International Certification Board and the International Association for Animal Assisted Play Therapy Board.

Dr. Main has worked alongside trained therapy dogs throughout her career and currently partners with Rook and Jax. She and her dogs are involved in community outreach through Love on a Leash, providing comfort and connection to children and college students.

Supervision and mentoring are central to Dr. Main’s work. As an AAPT Instructor and play therapy supervisor, she is passionate about supporting clinicians as they grow in confidence, ethical practice, and clinical skill, while continuing to walk alongside families with care and intention.
